YEHEL:  CHAPTER 1

YEHEL:  CHAPTER 1

The Word of YEHOWAH that came to Yehel, the son of Pethuel,
2 “Hear this, O elders, and listen, all inhabitants of the land.  Has this existed in your days or in your fathers’ days?
3 Tell your children about it, and your children their children, and their children the next generation:
4 That which the palmerworm has left, the grasshopper has eaten; and that which the grasshopper has left, the canker worm has eaten; and that which the canker worm has left, the caterpillar has eaten.
5 Awake, you drunkards, and weep; wail, all you wine drinkers, because of the new wine, for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 For a nation is come up upon My land; mighty and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has the jaw teeth of a great lion.
7 And it has made My vine desolate, and fragmented My fig tree.  It has made them bare and cast away; their branches have become white.
8 Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth, for the husband of her youth.
9 The sacrifice and the drink offering are cut off from the house of YEHOWAH.  The priests; the ministers of YEHOWAH, mourn.
10 The field is destroyed, the land mourns, for the grain is destroyed, the new wine dries up and the anointed oil languishes.
11 Be ashamed O farmers; wail O vine-dressers, for the wheat and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.
12 The vine dries up and the fig tree languishes; the pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree; all the trees of the field withered, because rejoicing dries up from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves and lament, O priests; howl, O ministers of the altar!  Come, spend the night in sackcloth O ministers of my Elohim, for the bloodless offering and the drink offering are withheld from the house of your Elohim.
14 Consecrate a fast; proclaim a solemn assembly; gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of YEHOWAH your Elohim, and cry out to YEHOWAH.
15 Alas, for the day!  The day of YEHOWAH is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty it will come.
16 Is not the food cut off before your eyes; gladness and joy from the house of Elohim?
17 The seeds rot under their clods; the granaries are desolate; the barns are torn down, for the grain is withered.
18 How the beasts groan!  The herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; even the flocks of sheep are guilty.”
19 To You, O YEHOWAH, will I cry, for fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.
20 The beasts of the field also cry unto You, for the waters of the rivers are dried up and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

YEHEL:  CHAPTER 2

YEHEL:  CHAPTER 2

Blow a trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain!  Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of YEHOWAH is coming; for it is at hand;
2 a day of darkness and gloom; a day of clouds and thick darkness.  As the dawn is spread over the mountains, there is a great and mighty nation; there has never been like it, nor will there be again after it, to the years of generations and generations.
3 A fire consumes before them and behind them a flame burns.  The land is as the Garden of Eden before them, but behind them a desolate wilderness, and nothing escapes them.
4 Their appearance is as the appearance of horses, and as horsemen, so they run.
5 Like the sound of chariots on the tops of the mountains they leap; like the sound of a flame of fire consuming the stubble; like a mighty people set in battle array.
6 Before their face the people shall writhe in pain; all faces shall gather blackness.
7 They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war, and they shall march, each one on his way, and they shall not break ranks.
8 They do not press in on one another, they march each one in his path, and if they fall upon a sword, they shall not be wounded.
9 They shall course to and fro in the city; they shall rush upon the wall; they shall climb up into the houses, entering in at the windows like a thief.
10 The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon grow dark, and the stars lose their brightness.
11 YEHOWAH utters His voice before His army, for His camp is very great, and strong are they who execute His Word.  The day of YEHOWAH is indeed great and very fearful, who can endure it?
12 “Yet even now,” says YEHOWAH, “Turn back to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning;
13 rend your heart and not your garments.”  Turn back now to YEHOWAH your Elohim, for He is gracious and merciful; slow to anger, and of great loving-kindness, and relenting of evil.
14 Who knows if He will turn back and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him; a bloodless offering and a sacrifice for YEHOWAH Elohim?
15 Blow a trumpet in Zion, dedicate a fast; proclaim a solemn assembly;
16 gather the people; sanctify the assembly; bring the aged and gather the children and the nursing infants.  Let the bridegroom come out of his apartment, and the bride out of her chamber.
17 Let the priests, YEHOWAH’S ministers, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, “Spare Your people, O YEHOWAH, and do not make Your inheritance a reproach; a byword among the nations, that they should say of the people, ‘Where is their Elohim?'”
18 Then YEHOWAH will be very zealous for His land and will have pity on His people.
19 And YEHOWAH will answer and say to His people, “Behold, I am going to send you grain, and wine and oil, and you will be satisfied with them, and I will never again make you a reproach among the nations.
20 And I will remove the northern army far from you, and I will drive it into a land barren and desolate; its face toward the eastern sea, and its rear toward the western sea.  And its stink will come up and its stench will arise, for it has acted arrogantly.
21 Fear not, O land; rejoice and be glad, for YEHOWAH will do great things.
22 Fear not, beasts of the field, for the pastures of the wilderness will be as spring, the tree has borne its fruit, the fig tree and the vine yield their increase in full.
23 Be glad, O children of Zion, and rejoice in YEHOWAH your Elohim, for He has given you the early rain in righteousness, and He has poured down for you the rain; the early and latter rain as before,
24 and the threshing floors will be full of wheat, and the vats will overflow with wine and oil.
25 Then I will make amends to you for the years that the grasshopper, the cankerworm, caterpillar and the palmerworm have eaten; My great army which I sent among you.
26 And you will eat in plenty and be satisfied, and will praise the Name of YEHOWAH your Elohim, Who has dealt wondrously with you.  And My people will never be ashamed.
27 And you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am YEHOWAH your Elohim, and none other.  And My people will never be ashamed.
28 And it will come to pass after this, that I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your aged will dream dreams, and your children and youth will see visions.
29 Even upon the servants and handmaids will I pour out My Spirit in those days.
30 And I will show wonders in the sky and on the earth:  Blood, fire and pillars of smoke.
31 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and fearful day of YEHOWAH comes.
32 And it will come to pass that whoever calls upon the Name of YEHOWAH will be delivered, for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as YEHOWAH has said; even among the remnant whom YEHOWAH calls.

YEHEL:  CHAPTER 3

YEHEL:  CHAPTER 3

“For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the prosperity of Yehudah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all the nations, and bring them down to the valley of Yehshaphat.  And I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people, and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land,
3 and they have also cast lots for My people; traded a boy for a whore, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.
4 Yes, and what have you to do with Me, O Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of Palestine? Will you render Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily, I will return your recompense on your own head,
5 because you have taken My silver and My gold, and have taken My precious treasures to your temples,
6 and sold the sons of Yehudah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, in order to remove them far from their territory.
7 Behold, I am going to awaken them from the place where you have sold them, and return your recompense on your own head.
8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hands of the children of Yehudah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans; to a people far off,” for YEHOWAH has spoken.
9 Proclaim this among the nations:  Prepare war; arouse the mighty men!  Let all the men of war draw near; let them come up!
10 Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am a mighty man.’
11 Assemble and come, all you surrounding nations, and gather yourselves together there. Bring down, O YEHOWAH, Your mighty ones.
12 Let the nations be awakened and come up to the valley of Yehshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.
13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.  Come down, for the wine press is full; the vats overflow, for their evil is great.
14 Multitudes; multitudes in the valley of decision!  For the day of YEHOWAH is near in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall lose their brightness.
16 YEHOWAH also shall roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble.  But YEHOWAH is a refuge for His people, and a stronghold for the children of Israel.
17 Then you will know that I, YEHOWAH, your Elohim, am dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain.  And Jerusalem will be holy, and foreigners will pass through it no more.
18 And it shall come to pass in that day, the mountains will drip with new wine, the hills will flow with milk, all the rivers of Yehudah will flow with water, and a fountain will spring forth from the house of YEHOWAH to water the valley of Shittim.
19 Egypt will be desolate, and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, because of the violence done to the children of Yehudah, in whose land they have shed innocent blood.
20 But Yehudah will be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem for all generations.
21 And I will cleanse their blood, which I have not cleansed, for YEHOWAH dwells in Zion.
