HOSEA:  CHAPTER 1

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 1

The Word of YEHOWAH that came to Hosea the son of Beeryeh, during the days of Uzziyeh, Yehtham, Ahaz and Hezekiyeh, kings of Yehudah, and during the days of Jeroboam the son of Yehash, king of Israel.
2 The beginning of the Word of YEHOWAH by Hosea; and YEHOWAH said to Hosea, “Go, take unto yourself a wife of whoredom, and have children of whoredom, for the land has committed great whoredom, departing from YEHOWAH.”
3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and begat unto him a son.
4 And YEHOWAH said to him, “Call his name Jezreel, for yet in a little while I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Yehu, and I will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
5 And it shall come to pass on that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”
6 And she conceived again and begat a daughter.  And it was told him, “Call her name Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have pity upon the house of Israel, but I will utterly take them away.
7 But I will have pity upon the house of Yehudah, and will deliver them by YEHOWAH their Elohim, and will not deliver them by bow, or by sword, or by battle, or by horses, or by horsemen.”
8 And when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and begat a son,
9 and he was commanded, “Call his name Lo-ammi, for you are not my people, and I will not be for you.
10 Yet the number of the children of Israel will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered.  And it will come to pass, in the place where it was said unto them, ‘You are not My people,’ it will be said unto them, ‘You are children of the living El.’
11 Then shall the children of Yehudah, and the children of Israel, be gathered together, and appoint for themselves one head, and they will come up from out of the land.  For great will be the day of Jezreel.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 2

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 2

“Say to your brethren, ‘Ammi,’ and to your sisters, ‘Ruhamah.’
2 Plead with your mother; plead, for she is not My wife, neither am I her husband.  Let her, therefore, put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts,
3 lest I strip her naked, and set her as on the day she was born; and make her a wilderness; and set her like a dry land; and slay her with thirst.
4 And I will not have pity upon her children, because they are children of whoredom.
5 For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has done shamefully. For she said, ‘I will go after my lovers, who give me bread and water, wool and flax, oil and drink.’
6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, so that she cannot find her paths.
7 And she will follow after her lovers, but she will not reach them, and she will seek, but will not find.  Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for then it was better for me than now!’
8 For she did not know that I gave her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
9 Therefore, I will return, and take away My grain in its time, and My wine in its season, and I will recover My wool and My flax that covers her nakedness.
10 And now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none will deliver her out of My hand.
11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease; her feast days, her new moons, her Sabbaths and all her solemn feasts.
12 And I will destroy her vines and fig trees, of which she said, ‘These are my rewards that my lovers have given me.’  And I will make them a forest; and the beasts of the field will consume them.
13 And I will punish her for the days of Baalim, when she burned incense to them, and adorned herself with her earrings and jewelry; and she went after her lovers, and forgot Me,” says YEHOWAH.
14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably to her,
15 and I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor as a door of hope.  And she will sing there as in the days of her youth; as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
16 And it will be at that day,” declares YEHOWAH, “That you will call Me ‘Ishi’, and will call me no more, ‘Baali’.
17 For I will take away the names of Baalim from her mouth, and they will no more be remembered by their name.
18 And in that day I will also make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground.  And I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down in safety.
19 And I will betroth you unto Me forever!  Yes, I will betroth you unto Me in righteousness, and in justice, and in mercy, and in compassion.
20 I will even betroth you unto Me in faithfulness, and you will know YEHOWAH.
21 And it will come to pass in that day, that I will hear,” declares YEHOWAH; “I will hear the heavens, and they will hear the earth,
22 and the earth will hear the grain, the wine and the oil; and they will hear Jezreel.
23 And I will sow her unto Me in the earth, and I will have pity upon her who had not obtained mercy, and I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’  And they will say, ‘My Elohim!’”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 3

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 3

Then YEHOWAH said to me, “Go again, love a woman beloved by her husband, yet an adulteress, according to the love of YEHOWAH toward the children of Israel, who look to other elohim and love cakes of wine.”
2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen pieces of silver, and a homer and a half of barley.
3 And I said unto her, “You shall dwell with me for many days.  You will not play the whore, and you will not be with another man.  So I also will be toward you.
4 For the children of Israel will dwell many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without idols.
5 Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek YEHOWAH their Elohim, and David their king, and will stand in awe of YEHOWAH and His goodness in the latter days.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 4

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 4

“Hear the word of YEHOWAH, you children of Israel, for YEHOWAH has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth; no mercy; no knowledge of Elohim in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches blood.
3 Therefore the land mourns, and everyone who dwells in it languishes with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yes, the fish of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no one strive, nor reprove another, for your people are as those who strive with the priest.
5 Therefore you will fall in the day, and the prophet also will fall with you in the night, and I will destroy your mother.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.  Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall not be priests unto Me.  Seeing that you have forgotten the law of your Elohim, I will also forget your children.
7 As they increased, so they sinned against Me.  Therefore, I will change their glory into shame.
8 They feed upon the sin of My people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
9 And it will be, like people, like priest, and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them for their doings.
10 They will eat, but not have enough.  They will play the whore, but not increase, because they have left off taking heed to YEHOWAH.
11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
12 My people ask counsel at their trees, and their staff declares unto them, for the spirit of whoredom has caused them to err, and they have gone whoring from under their Elohim.
13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense on the hills, under oaks, poplars and elms, because their shade is good.  Therefore your daughters commit whoredom, and your spouses commit adultery.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, or your spouses when they commit adultery, for they are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots. Therefore, the people that do not understand shall fall.
15 Though you, Israel, play the harlot, do not let Yehudah offend.  And come not into Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear, ‘As YEHOWAH lives!’
16 For Israel slides back like a backsliding heifer.  And now YEHOWAH will feed them like a lamb in a large place.
17 Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.
18 Their drink is sour.  They have committed whoredom continually; wine is taken away, they play the whore continually; their rulers dearly love to impart shame.
19 The wind has bound her up in her wings, and they will be ashamed because of their sacrifices.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 5

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 5

“Hear this, O priests! Give heed, you house of Israel; and give ear, O house of the king, for judgment is toward you, because you have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.
2 You have plunged deeply into their slaughter, and I shall rebuke you all.
3 I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me.  For now, O Ephraim, you have committed idolatry, and Israel has defiled itself.
4 You cannot surrender your acts back unto Elohim, for a spirit of whoredom is within you, and you do not know YEHOWAH,
5 and the pride of Israel testifies to his face.  Therefore, Israel and Ephraim have fallen in their iniquity, and Yehudah also has stumbled with them.
6 You will go with your flocks and herds to seek YEHOWAH, but you will not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from you.
7 You have dealt treacherously against YEHOWAH, for you have begotten foreign children, and now shall a new moon devour you and your allotment.
8 Blow the cornet in Gibeah; the trumpet in Ramah.  Cry aloud in Beth-aven, ‘Behind you, Benyehmin!’
9 Ephraim will be desolate in the day of rebuke; among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which will be.
10 The princes of Yehudah have become like those who move a boundary.  Therefore, I will pour out My wrath upon them like water.
11 Ephraim is oppressed and crushed in judgment, because he willingly walked after man’s command.
12 Therefore I am unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Yehudah as rottenness.
13 When Ephraim saw his sickness and Yehudah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria and sent to King Jareb, but he could not heal you, or cure your wound.
14 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Yehudah. I, even I, will pull to pieces and go away; I will take away, and none will deliver him.
15 I will go and return to My place until they acknowledge their offense and seek My face; in their affliction they will seek Me early.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 6

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 6

“Come, let us return to YEHOWAH, for He has torn, but He will heal; He has struck, but He will heal.
2 After two days He will revive us.  In the third day He will raise us up, and we will live before Him.
3 Then shall we know, if we pursue knowledge of YEHOWAH, for His going forth is as established as the morning, and He will come to us like the rain; like the latter rain unto the earth.
4 O Ephraim, what shall I do unto you? O Yehudah, what shall I do unto you? Your beauty is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.
5 Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets; I have slain them by the Words of My mouth, and your judgments are as the light that goes forth.
6 For I delight in mercy, and not sacrifice; and in the knowledge of Elohim, more than burnt offerings.
7 But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant, and there they have dealt treacherously against Me.
8 Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.
9 And as robbers wait for a victim, a company of priests murder on the way with consent, and they do wickedly.
10 I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel:  There is the whoredom of Ephraim; Israel is defiled.
11 Also, O Yehudah, there is a harvest set for you, when I return the captivity of My people.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 7

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 7

“When I would have healed Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered; and the wickedness of Samaria.  For they deal falsely, and the thief comes in, and the robbers spoil outside,
2 and they do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness.  Their deeds are all around them; they are before My face.
3 They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
4 They are all adulterers; like an oven heated by the baker, who stops stirring the fire after he has kneaded the dough, until it is leavened.
5 On the day of our king, the princes have made him sick with the wrath of wine; he stretched out his hand against scorners,
6 for their hearts are like a warmed oven, while they lie in wait.  Their baker sleeps all the night; in the morning it burns as a flaming fire.
7 They are all hot like an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings have fallen.  There is none among them that call unto Me.
8 Ephraim has mixed himself among the people; Ephraim has become a cake not turned.
9 Strangers devour his strength, and he knows not.  Yes, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knows not,
10 and the pride of Israel testifies to his face, and they do not return to YEHOWAH their Elohim, nor do they seek Him for all this.
11 Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart, they call to Egypt; they go to Assyria.
12 When they go, I will spread My net upon them; I will bring them down like the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them in the hearing of the assembly.
13 Woe unto them, for they have departed from Me!  Destruction unto them, for they have transgressed against Me!  I have redeemed them, but they have spoken lies against Me!
14 They do not cry unto Me from their heart when they howl on their beds.  They assemble together for grain and wine, and they rebel against Me.
15 Although I bound and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against Me.
16 They turn, but not unto the Most High.  They are like a deceitful bow.  Their princes will fall by the sword, because of the rage of their tongue, and this is their derision in the land of Egypt.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 8

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 8

“Put the trumpet to your mouth!  He will come like an eagle against the house of YEHOWAH, because they have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
2 Israel will cry out to Me, ‘My Elohim, we know You!’
3 But Israel has cast off the good, so the enemy will pursue him.
4 They have set up kings, but not by Me.  They have appointed princes, that I knew not.  With their silver and their gold they have made idols, that they may be cut off.
5 Your calf, O Samaria; has cast you off, and My wrath is kindled.  How long before you attain innocence?
6 For from Israel is this:  A craftsman made it, therefore it is not elohim, but the calf of Samaria will be broken to pieces.
7 For they have sown the wind, and they will reap the whirlwind.  The grain has no stalk; the bud shall yield no grain.  If it did yield, strangers would swallow it up.
8 Israel is swallowed up.  Now shall they be among the Gentiles, as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.
9 For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone.  Ephraim has hired lovers.
10 Even though they hire out to the nations, now I will gather them, and they will sorrow a while from the burden of the king of princes.
11 Because Ephraim has made many altars to sin, alters shall be unto him for sin.
12 I wrote to him the great things of My law, but they counted them as strange.
13 Though they sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of My offerings, and eat, YEHOWAH accepts them not.  Now will He remember their iniquity, and punish their sins.  And they will return to Egypt.
14 For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built temples, and Yehudah has multiplied fenced cities, but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it will devour the temples of it.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 9

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 9

“Rejoice not for joy, O Israel, as do other people, for you have gone whoring from your Elohim.  You have loved a reward from every threshing floor.
2 The threshing floor and wine press will not feed you, and the new wine will fail you.
3 They will not remain in YEHOWAH’S land, but Ephraim will return to Egypt, and in Assyria they will eat unclean things.
4 They will not offer wine offerings unto YEHOWAH.  Neither shall they be pleasing unto Him.  Their sacrifices will be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat of it will be defiled, for the bread for their soul will not enter into the house of YEHOWAH.
5 What will you do on the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of YEHOWAH?
6 For behold, they will go because of destruction.  Egypt will gather them up; Memphis will bury them.  The pleasant things of silver shall be possessed by nettles, and thorns will be in their tabernacles.
7 The days of reckoning have come; the days of recompense have come.  Israel must know! The prophet is a fool; the spiritual ones are mad, because of the multitude of your sins, and because of your great hatred.
8 Elohim was with the watchman of Ephraim, yet their prophet is a snare of a fowler in every way, and hatred is in the house of their elohim.
9 They are deeply corrupted, as in the days of Gibeah.  Therefore, He will remember their iniquity; He will visit their sins.
10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness.  I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree in her first fruiting.  But they went to Baal-peor and separated themselves unto that shame, and their abominations were in accord with their love.
11 Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird; from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.
12 Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them, until not one person is left. Yes, woe unto them indeed, when I turn away from them!
13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyre, is planted in a pleasant place, but Ephraim will bring forth his children to the slaughter.
14 Give them, O YEHOWAH, what will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them.  For the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of My house, and I will love them no more.  All their princes are rebellious.
16 Ephraim is stricken, their root is dried up; they will bear no fruit.  Yes, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
17 Elohim will cast them away, because they did not listen to Him, and they will be wanderers among the nations.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 10

HOSEA:   CHAPTER 10

“Israel is an empty vine that brings forth fruit unto himself.  According to the multitude of his fruit he has increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land he has made sacred pillars.
2 Their heart is divided; now will they be held guilty.  Break down their altars, and destroy their sacred pillars.
3 For now they will say, ‘We have no King, because we feared not YEHOWAH.  What then shall a king do to us?’
4 They speak words, swearing falsely in making covenants, thus judgment springs up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5 The inhabitants of Samaria will fear because of the calf of Beth-aven, for its people will mourn over it, and its priests will cry out over it; for the glory of it, because it has departed.
6 For it also will be carried to Assyria as tribute to King Jareb.  Ephraim will receive its shame, and Israel will be ashamed of its own counsel.
7 As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8 Also the high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed.  The thorn and the thistle will come upon their altars, and they will say to the mountains, ‘Cover us!’  And to the hills, ‘Fall on us!’
9 O Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah.  There they stood.  Will not the battle in Gibeah, against the children of iniquity, overtake you?
10 At My pleasure I will chastise them, and the nations will be gathered against them, when they are bound in their two furrows.
11 Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to tread out, but I passed over upon her fair neck, and I will make Ephraim to ride.  Yehudah will plow.  Jacob will break his clods.
12 Sow unto yourselves in righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground.  It is time to seek YEHOWAH, until He comes to rain righteousness upon you.
13 You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity.  You have eaten the fruit of lies, because you have trusted in your way; in the multitude of your mighty men.
14 Therefore, a tumult will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be spoiled, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; mothers were dashed in pieces upon her children.
15 So will Bethel do unto you, because of your great wickedness.  At dawn the king of Israel will be cut off.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 11

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 11

“When Israel was a child I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.
2 They called them, so they went out to them, and they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
3 I taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them.
4 I led them with cords of a man; with bonds of love, and I was to them as one that takes off the yoke from their jaws, and I spread out food for them.
5 He will not return to the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian will be their king, because they refused to repent.
6 And the sword will abide on his cities, and will consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
7 And My people are bent to backsliding.  Though they called unto the Most High, none exalted Him.
8 How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you as Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me; My relentings are kindled together.
9 I will not execute the fierceness of My wrath; I will not return to destroy Ephraim.  For I am El, not man; the Holy One in your midst, and I will not enter into the city.
10 They will walk after YEHOWAH, and He will roar like a lion when he roars.  Then the children will tremble from the west;
11 they will tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria.  And I will place them in their houses, says YEHOWAH.
12 Ephraim encompasses Me round about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit, but Yehudah will yet rule with El, and is faithful with the saints.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 12

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 12

“Ephraim feeds on wind, and follows after the east wind.  He increases lies and desolation daily, and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2 YEHOWAH disagrees with  Yehudah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; He will repay him according to his deeds.
3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he contended with Elohim.
4 Yes, he had power over the angel and prevailed.  He wept, and made supplication unto Him.  He found Him at Bethel, and there He spoke with us;
5 even YEHOWAH, Elohim of hosts; YEHOWAH is His memorial.
6 Therefore, return to Elohim.  Keep mercy and justice, and wait upon your Elohim continually.
7 A merchant whose balances of deceit are in hand, loves to oppress.
8 And Ephraim said, ‘Truly I am rich! I have found wealth! In all my labors they shall find no iniquity, which is sin.’
9 But I, YEHOWAH, your Elohim from the land of Egypt; will make you dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10 I have spoken by the prophets, and I multiplied visions, and used similitude’s by the ministry of the prophets.
11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? Surely there is vanity.  They sacrifice bulls in Gilgal; yes, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
12 Jacob fled to the land of Syria, and Israel worked for a wife; and for a wife he kept sheep.
13 And by a prophet YEHOWAH brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
14 Ephraim has provoked to most bitter anger, therefore shall Adonay leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall He return unto him.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 13

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 13

“When Ephraim spoke there was trembling, and he exalted himself in Israel, but when he offended in Baal, he died.
2 And now they sin more and more, and make for themselves molten images from their silver; and idols according to their own understanding.  They say of them, ‘Let the men who sacrifice kiss the calf!’
3 Therefore they will be like the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away; as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and as smoke from a chimney.
4 Yet I am YEHOWAH, your Elohim from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no elohim but Me, for there is no deliverer besides Me.
5 I knew you in the wilderness; in the land of great drought.
6 As they pastured, so they were filled. They were filled, and their heart was exalted, therefore they forgot Me.
7 So I will be unto them as a lion; as a leopard by the way will I observe them.
8 I will meet them like a bear bereaved of her cubs, and will rend the cavity of their heart, and there I will devour them like a lion.  The wild beast will tear them.
9 O Israel, you have destroyed yourself, but in Me is your help.
10 I will be your King!  Where is any other that will save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?
11 I gave you a king in My anger, and took him away in My wrath.
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hidden.
13 The pains of childbirth will come upon him; he is an unwise son, for he should not stay long at the opening of the womb.
14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave.  I will redeem them from death.  O Death, I will be your plague.  O grave, I will be your destruction.  Repentance will be hidden from My eyes.
15 Though he is fruitful among his brethren, an east wind will come, The Spirit of YEHOWAH shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up.  He will spoil the treasure of every precious vessel.
16 Samaria will be held guilty, for she has rebelled against Elohim.  They will fall by the sword.  Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their women with child will be ripped open.”

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 14

HOSEA:  CHAPTER 14

“O Israel, return unto YEHOWAH your Elohim, for you have fallen because of your iniquity.
2 Take words with you, and return to YEHOWAH.  Say to Him, ‘Take away all iniquity, and receive graciously, so we may render the calves of our lips.
3 Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on horses, nor will we say any more, “Our Elohim”, to the work of our hands.  You are our Elohim, and in You the fatherless find mercy.’
4 I will heal their backsliding, and I will love them freely, for My anger will turn away from him.
5 I will be as the dew unto Israel.  He will grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.
6 His branches will spread, and his beauty will be as the olive tree, and his smell as the cedars of Lebanon.
7 Those who dwell under his shadow will return; they will revive as the grain, and grow as the vine.  His renown will be as the wine of Lebanon.
8 Ephraim will say, ‘What more have I to do with idols?’ I have seen and observed him.  I am like a flourishing cypress.  From Me is your fruit found.
9 Whoever is wise, let them understand these things; discerning, they will know them.  The ways of YEHOWAH are straight, and the righteous will walk in them.  Transgressors will stumble over them.”
