YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 27

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 27

In the beginning of the reign of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah came this Word unto Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, saying,
2 Thus said YEHOWAH unto me, “Make for yourself bonds and yokes, and put them upon your neck,
3 and send to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah,
4 and command them to say unto their lords, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel; thus will you say unto your lords,
5 “I have made the earth, and mankind, and the beasts that are upon the ground, by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed right unto Me.
6 And now have I given all these lands unto the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
7 And all nations will serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time that his land comes; and then many nations and great kings will make of him their servant.
8 And it will come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish,” says YEHOWAH, “with the sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
9 Therefore do not listen to your prophets, or to your diviners, or to your dreamers, or to your enchanters; nor to your sorcerers, who speak unto you, saying, ‘You will not serve the king of Babylon.’
10 For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land, and that I should drive you out, and you should perish.
11 But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land,” says YEHOWAH, “and they will till it, and dwell in it.
12 And I spoke also to Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah according to all these Words, saying, ‘Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.
13 Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as YEHOWAH has spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
14 Therefore do not listen to the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, “You will not serve the king of Babylon”, for they prophesy a lie unto you.
15 For I have not sent them,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘and they prophesy a lie in My Name, that I might drive you out, and that you might perish; you, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.’”
16 Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, “Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Listen not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, “Behold, the vessels of YEHOWAH’S house will now shortly be brought again from Babylon,” for they prophesy a lie unto you.
17 Listen not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live.  Why should this city be laid waste?
18 But if they are prophets, and if the Word of YEHOWAH is with them, let them now make intercession unto YEHOWAH of hosts that the vessels which are left in the house of YEHOWAH, and in the house of the king of Yehudah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.’
19 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the remainder of the vessels that are yet in this city,
20  which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Yeconiyeh the son of Yehiakim king of Yehudah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Yehudah and Jerusalem.
21 Yea, thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of YEHOWAH, and in the house of the king of Yehudah and of Jerusalem,
22 ‘They will be carried to Babylon, and there they will remain until the day that I visit them,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘then I will bring them up, and restore them to this place.’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 28

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 28

And it came to pass in the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiyeh the son of Azur the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke unto me in the house of YEHOWAH, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, saying, ‘I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.
3 Within two full years I will bring again unto this place all the vessels of YEHOWAH’S house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon.
4 And I will bring again to this place Yeconiyeh the son of Yehiakim king of Yehudah, with all the captives of Yehudah that went into Babylon,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’”
5 Then the prophet Yeremiyeh said unto the prophet Hananiyeh in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of YEHOWAH,
6 and the prophet Yeremiyeh said, “Amen! YEHOWAH do so!  YEHOWAH perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of YEHOWAH’S house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into this place.
7 Yet hear you now this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people.
8 ‘The prophets that have been before me and before you of old prophesied both against many countries, and against great kingdoms; of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.
9 The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet will come to pass, then will that prophet be known, that YEHOWAH has truly sent him.’”
10 Then Hananiyeh the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Yeremiyeh’s neck, and broke it.
11 And Hananiyeh spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.”  And the prophet Yeremiyeh went his way.
12 Then the Word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh the prophet, after Hananiyeh the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of the prophet Yeremiyeh, saying,
13 “Go and tell Hananiyeh, saying, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH; “You have broken the yokes of wood, but you have made for them yokes of iron.”
14 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they will serve him.  And I have given him the beasts of the field also.”’”
15 Then said the prophet Yeremiyeh unto Hananiyeh the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiyeh, YEHOWAH has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie.
16 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Behold, I will cast you from off the face of the earth.  This year you will die, because you have taught rebellion against YEHOWAH.’”
17 So Hananiyeh the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 29

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 29

Now these are the words of the letter that Yeremiyeh the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the remainder of the elders who were carried away captive, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;
2 (this was after Yeconiyeh the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Yehudah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem);
3 by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariyeh the son of Hilkiyeh, (whom Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah sent to Babylon; to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,
4 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon,
5 ‘Build houses and dwell in them, and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them.
6 Take wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters, that you may be increased there, and not diminished.
7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto YEHOWAH for it; for in its peace, you will have peace.’
8 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Do not let the prophets or the diviners who are in your midst deceive you; neither give heed to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.
9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in My Name.  I have not sent them,’ says YEHOWAH.
10 For thus says YEHOWAH, ‘When seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
11 For I know the thoughts that I have toward you,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of evil; to give you a hopeful end.
12 Then will you call upon Me, and you will go and pray unto Me, and I will give heed unto you.
13 And you will seek Me, and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
14 And I will be found by you,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘and I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.
15 Because you have said, “YEHOWAH has raised us up prophets in Babylon”,
16 know that thus says YEHOWAH of the king who sits upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwell in this city, and of your brethren that have not gone forth with you into captivity;
17 thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, “Behold, I will send upon them the sword, famine and pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, which cannot be eaten, because they are so bad.
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and I will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth; to be a curse, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations where I have driven them,
19 because they have not given heed to My Words”, says YEHOWAH, “which I sent unto them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says YEHOWAH.
20 Hear you therefore the Word of YEHOWAH, all you of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon;
21 thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiyeh, and concerning Zedekiyeh the son of Maaseiyeh, who prophesy lies unto you in My Name, “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will slay them before your eyes,
22 and because of them a curse will be taken up by all the captivity of Yehudah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘YEHOWAH make you like Zedekiyeh and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire’,
23 because they have acted foolishly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken lying words in My Name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness,” says YEHOWAH.
24 Thus will you also speak to Shemaiyeh the Nehelamite, saying,
25 “Thus speaks YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, saying, ‘Because you have sent letters in your name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniyeh the son of Maaseiyeh the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
26 “YEHOWAH has made you priest instead of Yehiada the priest; that you should be officers in the house of YEHOWAH”, for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison, and in the stocks.
27 Now therefore why have you not reproved Yeremiyeh of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you?
28 For he has sent word unto Babylon, saying, “This captivity is long, build houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.”’”’
29 And Zephaniyeh the priest read this letter in the ears of Yeremiyeh the prophet.
30 Then came the word of YEHOWAH unto Yeremiyeh, saying,
31 “Send to all them of the captivity, saying, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH concerning Shemaiyeh the Nehelamite, “Because Shemaiyeh has prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie,
32 therefore thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Behold, I will punish Shemaiyeh the Nehelamite, and his seed.  He will not have a man to dwell among this people; neither will he behold the good that I will do for My people,’ says YEHOWAH; ‘because he has taught rebellion against YEHOWAH.’”’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 30

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 30

The Word that came to Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH Elohim of Israel, saying, ‘Write all the Words that I have spoken to you in a book.
3 For, lo, the days are coming,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘that I will turn back the captivity of My people Israel and Yehudah,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they will possess it.’”
4 And these are the Words that YEHOWAH spoke concerning Israel and concerning Yehudah:
5 “For thus says YEHOWAH, ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.
6 Ask now, and see if a man can give birth to a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?
7 Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it.  It is even the time of Jacob’s distress, but he will be saved out of it.
8 And it will come to pass in that day,’ says YEHOWAH of hosts, ‘that I will break his yoke from off their neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers will no more serve themselves of him,
9 but they will serve YEHOWAH their Elohim, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.
10 Therefore fear you not, O My servant Jacob,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘neither be dismayed, O Israel, for lo, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob will return and will be in rest, and be at ease, and none will make him afraid.
11 For I am with you,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘to save you.  Although I will make a full end of all nations to which I have scattered you, I will not make a full end of you, but I will chastise you properly, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.’
12 For thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Your affliction is desperate, and your wound is grievous,
13 and there is none to plead your cause; that you may be bound up, and there is no healing medicine.
14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they seek you not, for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy; with the chastisement of a cruel one; for the multitude of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.
15 Why do you cry because of your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable because of the multitude of your iniquities.  And because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you.
16 Therefore all those who devour you will be devoured, and all your adversaries, each one of them, will go into captivity.  And those who spoil you will be a spoil, and those who prey upon you I will give for a prey.
17 For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds,’ says YEHOWAH. ‘Because they called you an outcast, saying, “This is Zion, whom no man seeks after,”’
18 thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Behold, I will turn back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places, and the city will be built upon her own heap, and the palace will remain after the manner of it.
19 And out of them will come thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry. And I will multiply them, and they will not be few.  I will also glorify them, and they will not be small.
20 Their children also will be as before, and their congregation will be established before Me, and I will punish all who oppress them.
21 And their Prince will be one of them; their Ruler will come forth from the midst of them, and I will cause Him to draw near, and He will approach unto Me; for Who is this that engages His heart to approach unto Me?’ says YEHOWAH.
22 ‘And you will be My people, and I will be your Elohim.
23 Behold, the whirlwind of YEHOWAH goes forth with fury; a continuing whirlwind, and it will fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.
24 The fierce anger of YEHOWAH will not return until He has done it, and until He has performed the intent of His heart.  In the latter days you will understand this.’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 31

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 31

“At the same time,” says YEHOWAH, “I will be the Elohim of all the families of Israel, and they will be My people.”
2 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to give him rest.’
3 YEHOWAH appeared long ago, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore with loving-kindness have I sown you.
4 And once more I will build you up, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel, and you will again be adorned with your timbrels, and will go forth in the dances of those who rejoice.
5 You will yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria, and the planters will plant, and will eat of their fruit.
6 For there will be a day, that the guards upon the mountains of Ephraim will cry, “Arise you, and let us go up to Zion; unto YEHOWAH our Elohim.”’
7 For thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations.  Proclaim it; give praise, and say, “O YEHOWAH, save Your people, the remnant of Israel.”
8 Behold, I will bring them from the North Country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and those that travail with child together.  A great company will return here.
9 They will come with weeping; and with supplications I will lead them, and they will walk by the rivers of waters on a straight path, upon which they will not stumble.  For I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is My firstborn.’
10 Hear the word of YEHOWAH, O you nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He Who scattered Israel will gather him and keep him, as a shepherd keeps his flock,
11 for YEHOWAH has redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.
12 Therefore they will come and sing in the heights of Zion, and will be cheerful together in the goodness of YEHOWAH, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd; and their souls will be as a watered garden, and they will have no sorrow ever again.
13 Then will the virgin rejoice in the dance; both the young and old together, for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
14 And I will fill the soul of the priests with fatness, and My people will be satisfied with My goodness,’ says YEHOWAH.
15 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘A voice was heard in Ramah; lamentation and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.’
16 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘and they will come again from the land of the enemy.
17 And there is hope in your end,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘that your children will come again to their own border.
18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself, “You have chastised me, and I was chastised as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke.  Turn me back, and I will be turned, for You are YEHOWAH my Elohim.
19 Surely after I turned back, I repented; and after that I was instructed.  I struck my thigh; I was humiliated; yes, even ashamed, and I bore the reproach of my youth.”
20 Is Ephraim My dear son? Is he a pleasant child? Although I spoke against him, I earnestly remember him.  Therefore My heart yearns for him, and I will surely have mercy upon him,’ says YEHOWAH.
21 ‘Set you up road marks; put up your guideposts; set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went.  Turn back, O virgin of Israel; turn back to these your cities.
22 How long will you wander about, O backsliding daughter? For YEHOWAH has created a new thing in the earth; a woman will lead mankind.’
23 Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Once again they will use this speech in the land of Yehudah and in its cities, when I will bring them back from their captivity, “YEHOWAH bless you, O habitation of righteousness; O mountain of holiness.”
24 And there will dwell in Yehudah itself, and in all its cities together, farmers and those who go forth with flocks.
25 For I have satisfied the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.'”
26 At this time I awoke, and behold; my sleep was pleasant unto me.
27 “Behold, days are coming,” says YEHOWAH, “that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Yehudah with the seed of mankind, and with the seed of beast,
28 and it will come to pass, that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, to break down, to overthrow, to destroy and to afflict, so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant,” says YEHOWAH.
29 “In those days they will say no more, ‘The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’
30 But everyone will die for their own iniquity; every person that eats the sour grape, their teeth will be set on edge.
31 Behold, the days are coming”, says YEHOWAH, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Yehudah.
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; My covenant which they broke, although I was a Husband unto them,” says YEHOWAH:
33 “But this will be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says YEHOWAH, “I will put My law within them, and will write it in their hearts; and I will be their Elohim, and they will be My people.
34 And they will never again teach each person their neighbor, or each person their brethren, saying, ‘Know YEHOWAH!’ For they will all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them,” says YEHOWAH, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
35 Thus says YEHOWAH, Who appoints the sun for a light by day, and appoints the moon and the stars for a light by night; Who divides the sea when its waves roar; YEHOWAH of hosts is His Name!
36 “If those appointments cease from before Me,” says YEHOWAH, “then the seed of Israel also will cease from being a nation before Me forever.”
37 Thus says YEHOWAH; “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done,” says YEHOWAH.
38 “Behold, the days are coming,” says YEHOWAH, “that the city will be built for YEHOWAH from the tower of Hananeel to the Corner Gate.
39 And the measuring line will continue forth over against it unto the hill Gareb, and will encompass about unto Goath.
40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, will be holy unto YEHOWAH; it will not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more forever.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 32

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 32

The Word that came to Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH in the tenth year of Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar;
2 for then the king of Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem, and Yeremiyeh the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Yehudah’s house.
3 For Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it,
4 and Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah will not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes will behold his eyes;
5 and he will lead Zedekiyeh to Babylon, and there he will be until I visit him,” says YEHOWAH, “though you fight with the Chaldeans, you will not prosper.”’”
6 And Yeremiyeh said, “The Word of YEHOWAH came unto me, saying,
7 ‘Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle will come unto you, saying, “Buy for yourself my field that is in Anathoth, for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.”
8 So Hanameel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the Word of YEHOWAH, and said unto me, “Buy my field, I pray you, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benyehmin, for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.” Then I knew that this was the Word of YEHOWAH.’”
9 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, which was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money; even seventeen shekels of silver.
10 And I signed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.
11 So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law, terms and customs, and that which was open,
12 and I gave the evidence of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriyeh, the son of Maaseiyeh, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle’s son, and in the presence of the witnesses that signed the book of the purchase; before all the Yehudi that sat in the court of the prison.
13 And I charged Baruch before them, saying,
14 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Take this evidences; this evidence of the purchase, both that which is sealed, and this evidence which is open, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.’”
15 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Houses and fields and vineyards will be possessed again in this land.”
16 Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriyeh, I prayed unto YEHOWAH, saying,
17 “Ah Adonay YEHOWAH! Behold, You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm, and there is nothing too hard for You.
18 You show loving-kindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers unto the bosom of their children after them; the Great, the Mighty El, YEHOWAH of hosts, is His Name,
19 Great in counsel, and Mighty in work, for Your eyes are open unto all the ways of the children of men, to give to each one according to their ways, and according to the fruit of their deeds;
20 Who appointed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among mankind, and have made for Yourself a Name, as at this day,
21 and have brought forth your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;
22 and have given them this land, which you did swear to their fathers to give them; a land flowing with milk and honey.
23 And they came in, and possessed it, but they obeyed not Your voice, neither walked in Your law; they have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do; therefore You have caused all this evil to come upon them.
24 Behold, the siege mounts have reached the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence.  And what You have spoken has come to pass, and behold, You see it.
25 And You have said unto me, O Adonay YEHOWAH, ‘Buy you the field for money, and take witnesses, for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’”’”
26 Then came the Word of YEHOWAH unto Yeremiyeh, saying,
27 “Behold, I am YEHOWAH, the Elohim of all flesh; is there anything too hard for Me?”
28 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH; “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will take it.
29 And the Chaldeans that fight against this city will come and set fire to this city, and burn it, along with the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other elohim, to provoke Me to anger.
30 For the children of Israel and the children of Yehudah have only done evil before Me from their youth.  For the children of Israel have only provoked Me to anger with the work of their hands,” says YEHOWAH.
31 “For this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and of My wrath from the day that they built it, even to this day, that I should remove it from before My face,
32 because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Yehudah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger; they, their kings; their princes; their priests, and their prophets, and the children of Yehudah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
33 And they have turned their backs unto Me, and not their face, though I taught them; rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not taken heed to receive instruction.
34 But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My Name, to defile it.
35 And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of Ben-hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech, which I commanded them not; nor had it entered My mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Yehudah to sin.”
36 “And now therefore thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of Israel, concerning this city, whereof you say, ‘It will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence’,
37 behold, I will gather them out of all countries where I have driven them in My anger; and in My fury; and in great wrath, and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely;
38 and they will be My people, and I will be their Elohim.
39 And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for their good, and for their children after them.
40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good, but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they will not depart from Me.
41 Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul.”
42 For thus says YEHOWAH, “Just as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.
43 And fields will be bought in this land, of which you say, ‘It is desolate without human or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’
44 People will buy fields for money, and sign evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benyehmin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Yehudah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south, for I will cause their captivity to return, says YEHOWAH.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 33

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 33

Then the word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH the maker of all that is; YEHOWAH Who formed it, to establish it; YEHOWAH is His Name,
3 Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.”
4 “For thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Yehudah, which are thrown down by the siege mounts, and by the sword,
5 ‘They come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it is to fill them with the dead bodies of humanity, whom I have slain in My anger and in My fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hid My face from this city.
6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.
7 And I will cause the captivity of Yehudah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them up, as at the first.
8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities, by which they have sinned, and by which they have transgressed against Me.
9 And it will be to Me a name of joy, praise, and an honor before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do unto them.  And they will fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I bring forth unto it.’
10 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Again there will be heard in this place, which you say will be desolate, without human and without beast; even in the cities of Yehudah, and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without human, and without inhabitant, and without beast,
11 the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness; the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride; the voice of them that will say, “Praise YEHOWAH of hosts, for YEHOWAH is good; for His mercy endures forever.”  And of them that will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of YEHOWAH, for I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first,’ says YEHOWAH.
12 Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, ‘Again in this place, which is desolate without human and without beast, and in all its cities, will be a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
13 In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benyehmin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Yehudah, will the flocks pass again under the hands of him that numbers them,’ says YEHOWAH.
14 ‘Behold, the days are coming’, says YEHOWAH, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Yehudah.
15 In those days, and at that time, I will cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and He will execute justice and righteousness in the land.
16 In those days will Yehudah be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely, and this is the Name by which she will be called, “YEHOWAH our righteousness.”’
17 For thus says YEHOWAH, “David will never want for a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel.
18 Neither will the priests; the Levites, want for a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.”
19 And the word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh, saying,
20 “Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘If you can break My covenant of the day, and My covenant of the night, that there should not be day and night in their season,
21 then may also My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne, and with the Levites; the priests, My ministers.
22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David My servant, and the Levites that minister unto Me.’”
23 And the word of YEHOWAH came to Yeremiyeh, saying,
24 “Have you not heard what this people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which YEHOWAH has chosen, He has even cast them off?’ Thus they have despised My people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
25 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘If My covenant for day and night cannot stand, and if I My appointed ordinances of heaven and earth cannot stand,
26 then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for I will cause their captivity to return, and I will have mercy upon them.’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 34

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 34

The Word which came unto Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all its cities, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Go and speak to Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, and tell him, “Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.
3 And you will not escape out of his hand, but will surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes will behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he will speak with you mouth to mouth, and you will go to Babylon.’”
4 Yet hear the Word of YEHOWAH, O Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, thus says YEHOWAH of you, ‘You will not die by the sword.
5 You will die in peace and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings which were before you; so will they burn spices for you, and they will lament you, saying, “Ah lord!”  For I have pronounced the Word,’” says YEHOWAH.
6 And Yeremiyeh the prophet spoke all these words unto Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah in Jerusalem,
7 when the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Yehudah that were left; against Lachish, and against Azekah, for these fortified cities remained of the cities of Yehudah.
8 The Word that came to Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, after King Zedekiyeh had made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them;
9 that each person should let their manservant and their maidservant, being Hebrew, go free, so that none should keep for themselves a Yehudi in bondage.
10 And all the princes, and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, that each one should let their man servants and maidservants go free, then they obeyed, and let them go.
11 But afterward they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them again into subjection for servants and for handmaids.
12 Therefore the Word of YEHOWAH came to Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, saying,
13 “Thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of Israel, ‘I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt; out of the house of bondage, saying,
14 “At the end of seven years each of you shall set free their Hebrew brethren, who had been sold unto you, and when they had served you six years, you will let them go free from you.  But your fathers did not obey Me, nor did they incline their ear.
15 But you had now turned, and had done right in My sight in proclaiming liberty, each of you to their neighbor; and you had made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My Name.
16 But now you turned again and polluted My Name, and caused each of you your man servants, and each of you your handmaids, whom you had set free according to their desire, and brought them back into subjection to be your male and female servants.”
17 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH, “You have not obeyed Me in proclaiming liberty, each one to their brethren, and each one to their neighbor.  Behold, I proclaim a liberty for you,” says YEHOWAH, “to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine, and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.
18 And I will give the people who have transgressed My covenant; who have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before Me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts;
19 the princes of Yehudah, and the princes of Jerusalem; the eunuchs and the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;
20 I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life; and their dead bodies will be for meat unto the birds of the sky, and to the beasts of the earth.
21 And Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah and his prince’s will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, who have gone away from you.
22 Behold, I will command,” says YEHOWAH, “and cause them to return to this city, and they will fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire, and I will make the cities of Yehudah a desolation without an inhabitant.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 35

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 35

The Word which came unto Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH in the days of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah, saying,
2 “Go unto the house of the Rechabites and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of YEHOWAH; into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.”
3 Then I took Yaazaniyeh the son of Yeremiyeh, the son of Habazaniyeh, and his brethren, and all his children, and the whole house of the Rechabites,
4 and I brought them into the house of YEHOWAH; into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliyeh, a man of Elohim, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiyeh the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door.
5 And I set before the children of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, ‘Drink you wine.’
6 But they said, ‘We will drink no wine, for Yehnadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, “You will drink no wine; neither you, nor your children forever.
7 Neither will you build a house, nor sow seed, nor plant a vineyard, nor have any of these, but all your days you will dwell in tents, that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.”
8 And we have obeyed the voice of Yehnadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he has charged us, to drink no wine all our days; we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;
9 nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed,
10 but we have dwelled in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Yehnadab our father commanded us.
11 But it came to pass, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, “Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; and so we dwell at Jerusalem.”'”
12 Then came the Word of YEHOWAH unto Yeremiyeh, saying,
13 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Go and tell the men of Yehudah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, “Will you not receive instruction and listen to My Words?”’” says YEHOWAH.
14 “The words of Yehnadab the son of Rechab that he commanded his children, to not drink wine, are performed, for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment.  And yet I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking, but you do not listen to Me.
15 I have sent also unto you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Return you now each one from your evil way, and amend your deeds, and go not after other elohim to serve them; and you will dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers.  But you have not inclined your ear, nor listened unto Me.
16 Because the sons of Yehnadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them, but this people has not hearkened unto Me,’
17 therefore thus says YEHOWAH Elohim of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Behold, I will bring upon Yehudah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.’”
18 And Yeremiyeh said unto the house of the Rechabites, “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Because you have obeyed the commandment of Yehnadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he has commanded you,
19 therefore’ thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Yehnadab the son of Rechab will not want for a man to stand before Me forever.’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 36

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 36

And it came to pass in the fourth year of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah, that this Word came unto Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, saying,
2 “Take a scroll of a book and write in it all the words that I have spoken unto you against Israel, and against Yehudah, and against all the nations, from the day I first spoke unto you; from the days of Yosiyeh, even unto this day.
3 It may be that the house of Yehudah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them, that they may return each one from their evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”
4 Then Yeremiyeh called Baruch the son of Neriyeh, and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Yeremiyeh all the words of YEHOWAH, which He had spoken unto him, upon a scroll of a book.
5 And Yeremiyeh commanded Baruch, saying, “I am restrained; I cannot go up into the house of YEHOWAH.
6 Therefore you go, and read from the scroll, which you have written from my mouth; the Words of YEHOWAH in the ears of the people in YEHOWAH’S house upon the fasting day; and also you will read them in the ears of all Yehudah that come out of their cities.
7 It may be they will present their supplication before YEHOWAH, and will return everyone from their evil way, for great is the anger and the fury that YEHOWAH has pronounced against this people.”
8 And Baruch the son of Neriyeh did according to all that Yeremiyeh the prophet commanded him; reading from the book the words of YEHOWAH in YEHOWAH’S house.
9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before YEHOWAH to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Yehudah unto Jerusalem.
10 Then read Baruch from the book the words of Yeremiyeh in the house of YEHOWAH; in the chamber of Gemariyeh the son of Shaphan the scribe; in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of YEHOWAH’S house; in the ears of all the people.
11 When Michaiyeh the son of Gemariyeh, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the Words of YEHOWAH,
12 he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber, and lo, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiyeh the son of Shemaiyeh, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariyeh the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiyeh the son of Hananiyeh, and all the princes.
13 And Michaiyeh declared unto them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
14 Therefore all the princes sent Yehudi the son of Nethaniyeh, the son of Shelemiyeh, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, “Take in your hand the scroll from which you have read in the ears of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriyeh took the scroll in his hand, and came unto them.
15 And they said unto him, “Sit down now, and read it in our ears.” So Baruch read it in their ears.
16 Now it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear to one another, and said unto Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”
17 And they asked Baruch, saying, “Tell us now, how did you write all these words from his mouth?”
18 Then Baruch answered them, “He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.”
19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, “Go, hide yourself; both you and Yeremiyeh, and let nobody know where you are.”
20 And they went in to the king; into the court, but they first deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.
21 So the king sent Yehudi to fetch the scroll, and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber.  And Yehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.
22 Now the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month, and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
23 And it came to pass, when Yehudi had read three or four pages, he cut it with the penknife and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24 Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments; neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.
25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiyeh and Gemariyeh had pleaded with the king, that he would not burn the scroll, but he would not hear them.
26 But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiyeh the son of Azriel, and Shelemiyeh the son of Abdeel, to seize Baruch the scribe and Yeremiyeh the prophet, but YEHOWAH hid them.
27 Then the Word of YEHOWAH came to Yeremiyeh, after the king had burned the scroll; and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Yeremiyeh, saying,
28 “Take you again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Yehiakim the king of Yehudah has burned.
29 And you will say to Yehiakim king of Yehudah, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH, “You have burned this scroll, saying, ‘Why have you written in it?’ saying, ‘The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there mankind and beast?’”’”
30 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH of Yehiakim king of Yehudah, “He will have none to sit upon the throne of David, and his dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.
31 And I will punish him and his seed, and his servants, for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Yehudah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they listened not.”
32 Then took Yeremiyeh another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe the son of Neriyeh, who wrote therein from the mouth of Yeremiyeh all the words of the book which Yehiakim king of Yehudah had burned in the fire, and there were added besides unto them many like words.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 37

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 37

And King Zedekiyeh the son of Yosiyeh reigned instead of Coniyeh the son of Yehiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Yehudah.
2 But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, heeded the words of YEHOWAH, which He spoke by the prophet Yeremiyeh.
3 And Zedekiyeh the king sent Yehucal the son of Shelemiyeh and Zephaniyeh the son of Maaseiyeh the priest to the prophet Yeremiyeh, saying, “Pray now unto YEHOWAH our Elohim for us.”
4 Now Yeremiyeh came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison.
5 Then Pharaoh’s army came forth out of Egypt, and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard the report of them, they departed from Jerusalem.
6 Then came the Word of YEHOWAH unto the prophet Yeremiyeh, saying,
7 “Thus says YEHOWAH the Elohim of Israel, ‘Thus you will say to the king of Yehudah, who sent you unto Me to inquire of Me, “Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come forth to help you, will return to Egypt into their own land.
8 And the Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.”’
9 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘Do not deceive yourselves, saying, “The Chaldeans will surely depart from us”, for they will not depart.
10 For even if you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up each one in their tent, and burn this city with fire.’”
11 And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem, because of Pharaoh’s army,
12 that Yeremiyeh went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benyehmin; to take possession of his property there in the midst of the people.
13 And when he was in the gate of Benyehmin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Iriyeh the son of Shelemiyeh, the son of Hananiyeh, and he seized Yeremiyeh the prophet, saying, “You have gone over to the Chaldeans.”
14 But Yeremiyeh said, “It is false; I do not go over to the Chaldeans.”  But he did not listen to him, so Iriyeh took Yeremiyeh, and brought him to the princes.
15 Then the princes were angry with Yeremiyeh, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Yehnathan the scribe, for they had made that the prison.
16 And Yeremiyeh was taken into the pit of a cell, and Yeremiyeh had remained there many days.
17 Then Zedekiyeh the king sent and took him out, and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, “Is there any word from YEHOWAH?” And Yeremiyeh said, “There is!”  He said, “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
18 Moreover Yeremiyeh said unto king Zedekiyeh, “How have I offended you, or your servants, or this people, that you have put me in prison?
19 Where are your prophets who prophesied unto you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you, or against this land?’
20 Therefore, hear now, I pray you, O my lord the king, please let my supplication be accepted before you, that you do not cause me to return to the house of Yehnathan the scribe, lest I die there.”
21 Then Zedekiyeh the king commanded that they should commit Yeremiyeh to the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was gone.  Thus Yeremiyeh remained in the court of the prison.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 38

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 38

Then Shephatiyeh the son of Mattan, and Gedaliyeh the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiyeh, and Pashhur the son of Malchiyeh, heard the words that Yeremiyeh had spoken unto all the people, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH ‘Those that remain in this city will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, but those that go forth to the Chaldeans will live, for they will have their life as prey, and will live.’
3 Thus says YEHOWAH, ‘This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, which will take it.’”
4 Therefore the prince’s said unto the king, “We beg of you, let this man be put to death, for he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them.  For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.”
5 Then Zedekiyeh the king said, “Behold, he is in your hands, for the king can do nothing against you.”
6 Then they took Yeremiyeh and cast him into the pit in the cell of Malchiyeh the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison.  And they lowered Yeremiyeh down with cords.  And in the pit there was no water, but mire, so Yeremiyeh sank into the mire.
7 Now when Ebed-melech, the Ethiopian; one of the eunuchs who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Yeremiyeh in the pit; the king then sitting in the gate of Benyehmin,
8 Ebed-melech went forth out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,
9 “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Yeremiyeh the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is, for there is no more bread in the city.”
10 Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Yeremiyeh the prophet out of the pit before he dies.”
11 So Ebed-melech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there old rags; even old rotten rags, and let them down by ropes into the pit to Yeremiyeh.
12 And Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said unto Yeremiyeh, “Put now these old and rotten rags under your armpits; under the cords.”  And Yeremiyeh did so.
13 So they drew up Yeremiyeh with cords, and took him up out of the pit; and Yeremiyeh remained in the court of the prison.
14 Then Zedekiyeh the king sent and took Yeremiyeh the prophet unto him, into the third entry that is in the house of YEHOWAH, and the king said unto Yeremiyeh, “I will ask you one thing; hide nothing from me.”
15 Then Yeremiyeh said unto Zedekiyeh, “If I declare it unto you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.”
16 So Zedekiyeh the king swore secretly unto Yeremiyeh, saying, “As YEHOWAH lives, Who made for us this life, I will not put you to death; neither will I give you into the hand of these men that seek your life.”
17 Then said Yeremiyeh unto Zedekiyeh, “Thus says YEHOWAH the Elohim of hosts; the Elohim of Israel, ‘If you will indeed go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, then your soul will live, and this city will not be burned with fire; and you will live, and your house.
18 But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you will not escape out of their hand.’”
19 And Zedekiyeh the king said unto Yeremiyeh, “I am afraid of the Yehudi who have gone over to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.”
20 But Yeremiyeh said, “They will not deliver you.  Obey, I beseech you, the voice of YEHOWAH, which I speak unto you, so it will be well with you, and your soul will live.
21 But if you refuse to go forth, this is the Word that YEHOWAH has shown me,
22 ‘And behold, all of the women, who are left in the palace of the king of Yehudah, will be brought forth to the princes of the king of Babylon, and those women will say, “Your close friends have misled you, and have prevailed against you.  Your feet are sunk in the mire because you retreated and turned back.”
23 And they will also bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans, and you will not escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and you will cause this city to be burned with fire.’”
24 Then said Zedekiyeh unto Yeremiyeh, “Let no man know of these words, and you will not die.
25 But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come unto you, and say unto you, ‘Declare unto us now what you have said unto the king, hide it not from us, nor what the king said unto you, and we will not put you to death.’
26 Then you will say unto them, ‘I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Yehnathan’s house, to die there.’”
27 Then came all the princes unto Yeremiyeh, and asked him, and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded.  So they withdrew quietly from speaking with him, since the conversation was not heard.
28 So Yeremiyeh dwelled in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken, and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 39

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 39

In the ninth year of Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.
2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiyeh, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was breached.
3 And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate; even Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sar-sechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, and Rab-mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.
4 And it came to pass, that when Zedekiyeh the king of Yehudah saw them and all the men of war, they fled and went forth out of the city by night; by the way of the king’s garden; by the gate between the two walls, and he went out toward the desert.
5 But the Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiyeh in the plains of Jericho.  And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment upon him.
6 Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiyeh in Riblah before his eyes; also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Yehudah.
7 Moreover he put out Zedekiyeh’s eyes, and bound him with chains to carry him to Babylon.
8 And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.
9 Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away that fell to him, with the rest of the people that remained.
10 But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left some of the poorest of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Yehudah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.
11 Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Yeremiyeh to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,
12 “Take him and look after him, and do him no harm, but do unto him even as he will say unto you.”
13 So Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, sent to Nebushasban, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, and all the king of Babylon’s princes;
14 they even sent, and took Yeremiyeh out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home.  So he dwelt among the people.
15 Now the Word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,
16 “Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Behold, I will bring My Words upon this city for evil, and not for good, and they will be accomplished in that day before you.
17 But I will deliver you in that day,” says YEHOWAH, “and you will not be given into the hand of the men whom you fear.
18 For I will surely deliver you, and you will not fall by the sword, but your life will be as spoil unto you, because you have put your trust in Me,”’ says YEHOWAH.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 40

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 40

The Word that came to Yeremiyeh from YEHOWAH, after Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Yehudah, who were being exiled unto Babylon.
2 And the captain of the guard took Yeremiyeh, and said unto him, “YEHOWAH your Elohim appointed this calamity upon this place,
3 and YEHOWAH has brought it, and done according as He has said, because you sinned against YEHOWAH, and because you have not obeyed His voice.  Therefore this thing is come upon you.
4 And now, behold, I set you free this day from the chains which were upon your hands.  If it seems good unto you to come with me into Babylon, come and I will look after you, but if it seems ill to you to come with me into Babylon, rest easy.  Behold, all the land is before you; go wherever it seems good and convenient for you to go.”
5 Now before he had turned back, he then said, “Go back to Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Yehudah, and dwell with him among the people, or go wherever it seems convenient to you to go.”  So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a gift, and let him go.
6 Then Yeremiyeh went to Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and dwelled with him among the people that were left in the land.
7 Now when all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land; of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon,
8 then they came to Gedaliyeh to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, and Yehanan and Yehnathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiyeh the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephayeh the Netophathite, and Yezaniyeh the son of a Maachathite, they and their men;
9 and Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore unto them and to their men, saying, “Fear not to serve the Chaldeans.  Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.
10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, who will come unto us.  But you, gather you wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”
11 Likewise, when all the Yehudi that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Yehudah, and that he had set over them Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan,
12 even all the Yehudi returned out of all places where they had been driven, and came to the land of Yehudah, to Gedaliyeh, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits in abundance.
13 And Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliyeh to Mizpah,
14 and said unto him, “Do you certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh to slay you?” But Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam believed them not.
15 Then Yehanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliyeh in Mizpah secretly, saying, “Let me go, I pray you, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, and no man will know it. Why should he slay you, so that all the Yehudi who have gathered unto you should be scattered, and the remnant in Yehudah perish?”
16 But Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam said to Yehanan the son of Kareah, “You will not do this thing, for you speak falsely of Ishmael.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 41

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 41

And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.
2 Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, and the ten men that were with him, rose up and struck Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
3 Ishmael also slew all the Yehudi that were with him, even with Gedaliyeh, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, and the men of war.
4 And it came to pass on the second day after he had slain Gedaliyeh, and nobody knew about it,
5 that there came eighty men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves, with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of YEHOWAH.
6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went.  And it came to pass, as he met them, he said unto them, “Come to Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam.”
7 And so it was, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, and the men that were with him, slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit.
8 But ten men who were found among them said to Ishmael, “Slay us not, for we have hidden in the field, wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.”  So he stopped, and did not slay them with their brethren.
9 Now the pit in which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedaliyeh, was the one that Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel.  And Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh filled it with those that were slain.
10 Then Ishmael carried away captive all the rest of the people that were in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam.  And Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
11 But when Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh had done,
12 they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.
13 Now it came to pass, that when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.
14 So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah, turned around and returned, and went unto Yehanan the son of Kareah.
15 But Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh escaped from Yehanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.
16 Then Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam; even mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon,
17 and they departed, and dwelled in the lodging places of Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,
18 because of the Chaldeans, for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniyeh had slain Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor in the land.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 42

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 42

Then all the captains of the forces, and Yehanan the son of Kareah, and Yezaniyeh the son of Hoshaiyeh, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
2 and said unto Yeremiyeh the prophet, “Please, we beseech you, let our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us unto YEHOWAH your Elohim; even for all this remnant, (for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes now behold),
3 that YEHOWAH your Elohim may show us the way in which we may walk, and the things that we may do.”
4 Then Yeremiyeh the prophet said unto them, “I have heard you, and behold, I will pray unto YEHOWAH your Elohim according to your words, and it will come to pass, that whatsoever thing YEHOWAH will answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.”
5 Then they said to Yeremiyeh, “YEHOWAH be a true and faithful witness between us, if we will not do even according to all things that YEHOWAH your Elohim will send you to us.
6 Whether it be good, or whether it be bad, we will obey the voice of YEHOWAH our Elohim, to Whom we send you; that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of YEHOWAH our Elohim.”
7 And it came to pass after ten days that the Word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh.
8 Then he called Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people, from the least even to the greatest,
9 and said unto them, “Thus says YEHOWAH the Elohim of Israel, unto Whom you sent me to present your supplication before Him,
10 ‘If you will turn back and dwell in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down; and I will plant you, and not pluck you up, for I will relent of the evil that I have brought upon you.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon whom you fear; be not afraid of him,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
12 And I will show mercy unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
13 But if you say, “We will not dwell in this land or obey the voice of YEHOWAH your Elohim,
14 saying, ‘No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread, and there will we dwell.’”’
15 Then hear the Word of YEHOWAH, you remnant of Yehudah, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “If you wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to dwell there,
16 it will come to pass, that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, of which you are afraid, will follow close after you there in Egypt, and there you will die.
17 And so will it be with all those who set their faces to go into Egypt to dwell there; they will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, and none of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.’”’”
18 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “As My anger and My wrath have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so will My wrath be poured forth upon you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be despised, and a desolation, and a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.”
19 YEHOWAH has said concerning you, O you remnant of Yehudah, “Go not into Egypt!”  And know with certainty that I have admonished you this day.
20 For you deceived your own hearts, when you sent me unto YEHOWAH your Elohim, saying, “Pray for us unto YEHOWAH our Elohim, and according unto all that YEHOWAH our Elohim will say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.”
21 And now I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of YEHOWAH your Elohim, or anything for which He has sent me to you.
22 Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go and to dwell.'”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 43

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 43

And it came to pass, that when Yeremiyeh had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the Words of YEHOWAH their Elohim, for which YEHOWAH their Elohim had sent him to them; even all these words,
2 then spoke Azariyeh the son of Hoshaiyeh, and Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Yeremiyeh, “You tell a lie!  YEHOWAH our Elohim has not sent you to say, ‘Go not into Egypt to dwell there’,
3 but Baruch the son of Neriyeh provokes you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death and carry us away captive into Babylon.”
4 So Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, did not obey the voice of YEHOWAH, to dwell in the land of Yehudah.
5 But Yehanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Yehudah, who had returned from all nations; from where they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Yehudah;
6 the men, the women, the children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had left with Gedaliyeh the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Yeremiyeh the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriyeh,
7 and they came into the land of Egypt; for they did not obey the voice of YEHOWAH, and went as far as Tahpanhes.
8 Then the Word of YEHOWAH came unto Yeremiyeh in Tahpanhes, saying,
9 “Take great stones in your hand, and hide them in the clay in the brick-kiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the children of Yehudah,
10 and say unto them, ‘Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hidden, and he will spread his royal pavilion over them.
11 And when he comes, he will strike the land of Egypt, and deliver those appointed for death to death; and those appointed for captivity to captivity; and those appointed for the sword to the sword.
12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the elohim of Egypt, and he will burn them, and carry them away captives.  And he will clothe himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on their garments, and he will go forth from here in peace.
13 And he will break the images of Beth-shemesh, that are in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the elohim of the Egyptians he will burn with fire.”’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 44

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 44

The Word that came to Yeremiyeh concerning all the Yehudi who dwelled in the land of Egypt; who dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘You have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Yehudah; and behold, this day they are a desolation, and nobody dwells there,
3 because of their wickedness which they committed to provoke Me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other elohim, whom they knew not, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.
4 Even though I sent unto you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.”
5 But they heeded not, nor did they incline their ear to turn from their wickedness; to burn incense no more unto other elohim.
6 Therefore My wrath and My anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Yehudah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate as at this day.
7 Therefore now thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Why do you commit this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Yehudah, to leave yourselves without remnant,
8 in that you provoke Me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other elohim in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to dwell, that you might cut yourselves off, and that you might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Yehudah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Yehudah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 They are not humbled even unto this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in My law, nor in My statutes, which I did set before you and before your fathers.”’
11 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Behold, I will set My face against you for evil, and to cut off all Yehudah.
12 And I will take the remnant of Yehudah, who have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to dwell, and they will all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they will even be consumed by the sword and by the famine, and they will die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine.  And they will be despised, and a desolation, and a curse, and a reproach.
13 For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by pestilence,
14 so that none of the remnant of Yehudah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to dwell, will escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Yehudah, to which they desire to return to dwell there.  For none will return except those who might escape.’”
15 Then all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense unto other elohim, and all the women who stood by, a great multitude, even all the people who dwelled in the land of Pathros, in Egypt, answered Yeremiyeh, saying,
16 “The Word that you have spoken unto us in the Name of YEHOWAH, we will not give heed unto you.
17 But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour drink offerings unto her, as we have done; we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Yehudah and in the streets of Jerusalem.  For then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of heaven, and pouring out drink offerings unto her, we have lacked all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.
19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her without our men?”
20 Then Yeremiyeh said unto all the people; to the men, and to the women, and to all the people who had given him that answer, saying,
21 “The incense that you burned in the cities of Yehudah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not YEHOWAH remember them, and did not all this come into His mind,
22 so that YEHOWAH could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed? Therefore your land is desolate, and a curse and a reproach, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
23 Because you have burned incense, and because you have sinned against YEHOWAH, and have not obeyed the voice of YEHOWAH, nor walked in His law, nor in His statutes, nor in His testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as it is this day.”
24 Moreover Yeremiyeh said unto all the people, and to all the women, “Hear the Word of YEHOWAH, all Yehudah who are in the land of Egypt,
25 thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, saying, ‘You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, “We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour drink offerings unto her.  You will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
26 Therefore hear you the Word of YEHOWAH, all Yehudah who dwell in the land of Egypt, ‘Behold, I have sworn by My great Name,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘that My Name will no more be spoken from the mouth of any person of Yehudah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “Adonay YEHOWAH lives.”
27 Behold, I am watching over them for evil, and not for good.  And all the children of Yehudah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword, and by famine, until there is an end of them.
28 And that small number who escape the sword will return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Yehudah, and all the remnant of Yehudah, that have gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, will know whose words will stand; Mine, or theirs.
29 And this will be a sign unto you,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that My Words will surely stand against you for evil.’”
30  Thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, I will give Pharaoh-Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; his enemy, and who sought his life.”'”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 45

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 45

The word that Yeremiyeh the prophet spoke to Baruch the son of Neriyeh, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Yeremiyeh, in the fourth year of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah, saying,
2 “Thus says YEHOWAH, the Elohim of Israel, unto you, O Baruch,
3 ‘You did say, “Woe is me now! For YEHOWAH has added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my groaning, and I find no rest.”’
4 Thus will you say unto him, ‘YEHOWAH says thus, “Behold, what I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5 And do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for behold, I am bringing calamity upon all flesh,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘but your life I will give unto you for a spoil in all places where you may go.’”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 46

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 46

The Word of YEHOWAH that came to Yeremiyeh the prophet against the nations,
2 “Against Egypt; against the army of Pharaoh-Neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Yehiakim the son of Yosiyeh king of Yehudah.
3 Draw in line your shield and bucklers, and draw near to battle.
4 Harness the horses and get up, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; polish the spears, and put on your armor.
5 Why have I seen them afraid and turning back? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled away, and do not look back? Terror is on every side round about,” says YEHOWAH.
6 “Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty escape, for they will stumble and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates.
7 Who is this that rises up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers?
8 Egypt rises up like a flood, and its waters are moved like the rivers, and he says, ‘I will rise up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.’
9 Come up, you horses, and be enraged, you chariots, and let the mighty come forth, Cush and Put, who handle the shield, and Lud, who handles and bends the bow.
10 For this is the day of Adonay YEHOWAH of hosts; a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Himself of His adversaries; and the sword will devour, and it will be filled and made drunk with their blood.  For Adonay YEHOWAH of hosts has a sacrifice in the North Country by the river Euphrates.
11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt.  In vain you will use many medicines, but you will not be cured.
12 The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land.  And the mighty have stumbled against the mighty, and they are both fallen together.”
13 The Word that YEHOWAH spoke to Yeremiyeh the prophet, how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt:
14 “Declare you in Egypt, and publish in Migdol; and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes, and say, ‘Stand fast, and prepare yourselves, for the sword will devour round about you.
15 Why are your valiant swept away? They stood not, because YEHOWAH did cast them down.
16 He made many to fall; yes, one fell upon another, and they said, “Rise up, and let us turn back to our own people, and to the land of our nativity; away from the oppressing sword.”
17 They also said there, “Pharaoh King of Egypt is but a noise; he has passed the time appointed.”
18 As I live,’ says the King, Whose Name is YEHOWAH of hosts, ‘Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so will he come.
19 O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, prepare yourself to go into captivity, for Noph will be a waste and desolate without an inhabitant.
20 Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; from the north it is coming.
21 Also her hirelings are in the midst of her like fatted calves, for they also have turned back, and have fled away together.  They did not stand, because the day of their calamity came upon them; the time of their reckoning.
22 The sound of it will go forth like a serpent, for they will march as an army, and come against her with axes; as hewers of wood.
23 They will cut down her forest,’ says YEHOWAH, ‘though it cannot be searched, because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.
24 The daughter of Egypt will be shamed; she will be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.’”
25 YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, says, “Behold, I will punish the multitude of Thebes, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, along with their elohim, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all those who trust in him.
26 And I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants.  And afterward it will be inhabited, as in the days of old,” says YEHOWAH.
27 “But fear not you, O My servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel, for behold, I will save you from afar off, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob will return, and be at rest and at ease, and none will make him afraid.
28 Fear not, O Jacob My servant,” says YEHOWAH, “for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet will I not leave you wholly unpunished.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 47

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 47

The Word of YEHOWAH that came to Yeremiyeh the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza:
2 Thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and will be an overflowing flood, and will overflow the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those who dwell in it.  Then the people will cry, and all the inhabitants of the land will howl.
3 At the sound of the stamping hoofs of his strong horses; at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers will not look back to their children, because of the feebleness of their hands;
4 because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains.  For YEHOWAH will destroy the Philistines; the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley. How long will you cut yourself,
6 O you sword of YEHOWAH; how long will you not be quiet? Put up yourself into your scabbard; rest, and be still.
7 How can it be quiet, seeing YEHOWAH has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? There has He appointed it.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 48

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 48

Against Moab thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “Woe unto Nebo, for it is spoiled! Kiriathaim is confounded and taken!  Misgab is ashamed and dismayed!
2 There is no more praise of Moab; in Heshbon they have devised evil against it.  Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation.  Also you will be cut down, O Madmen; the sword will pursue you.
3 A voice of crying will be from Horonaim; desolation and great destruction.
4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
5 For in the ascent of Luhith continual weeping will go up; for in the descent of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
6 Flee, save your lives, and be like the juniper in the wilderness.
7 For because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you will also be taken, and Chemosh will go forth into exile with his priests and his princes together.
8 And the spoiler will come upon every city, and no city will escape; the valley also will perish, and the plain will be destroyed, as YEHOWAH has spoken.
9 Give wings unto Moab, so that it may flee and get away, for its cities will be desolate, without any to dwell in them.
10 Cursed are those who do the work of YEHOWAH deceitfully, and cursed are they that hold back their sword from blood.
11 Moab has been at ease from his youth, and has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel; nor has he gone into captivity.  Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
12 Therefore behold, the days come,” says YEHOWAH, “that I will send unto him those who topple over; who will cause him to tip over, and will empty his vessels, and break their bottles.
13 And Moab will be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.
14 How can you say, ‘We are mighty and strong men for the war?’
15 Moab is spoiled, and gone up out of her cities, and his chosen young have gone down to the slaughter,” says the King, Whose Name is YEHOWAH of hosts.
16 “The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hastens quickly.
17 All you that are round about him bemoan him, and all you that know his name, say, ‘How is the strong staff broken; and the beautiful rod?’
18 You daughters that inhabit Dibon, come down from your glory and sit in thirst, for the spoiler of Moab will come upon you, and he will destroy your strongholds.
19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way and observe; ask those that flee, and them that escape, and say, ‘What has happened?’
20 Moab is ashamed, for it is broken down.  Howl and cry; tell it in Arnon that Moab is spoiled,
21 and judgment is come upon the plain country; upon Holon, and upon Jahazah, and upon Mephaath;
22 and upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim;
23 and upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon;
24 and upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab; far or near.
25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken,” says YEHOWAH.
26 “Make him drunk, for he magnified himself against YEHOWAH.  Moab also will wallow in his vomit, and he also will be mocked.
27 For was not Israel a laughingstock unto you? Was he found among thieves? For whenever you speak of him, you toss your head in scorn.
28 O you that dwell in Moab, leave the cities and dwell in the rocks, and be like the dove that makes her nest beyond the mouth of the snare.
29 We have heard the pride of Moab (he is exceedingly proud); his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.
30 I know his wrath,” says YEHOWAH, “but it is nothing; his lies do nothing.
31 Therefore I will howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab, and My heart will mourn for the men of Kir-heres.
32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for you with the weeping of Jazer; your plants are gone over the sea, they reach even to the sea of Jazer; the spoiler is fallen upon your summer fruits and upon your vintage,
33 and joy and gladness is taken from the fruitful field, and from the land of Moab.  And I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses; none will tread with shouting; their shouting will be no shouting.
34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, have they uttered their voice; from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as a heifer of three years old, for the waters also of Nimrim will be desolate.
35 Moreover I will make an end in Moab,” says YEHOWAH, “the ones that offer in the high places, and who burn incense to their elohim.
36 Therefore My heart will sound for Moab like pipes, and My heart will sound like pipes for the people of Kir-heres, because the riches that they had gotten have perished.
37 For every head will be bald, and every beard shaved; upon all the hands will be cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
38 There will be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets, for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which there is no pleasure,” says YEHOWAH.
39 “They will howl, saying, ‘How is it broken down? How has Moab turned their back with shame?’ So will Moab be mocked and an object of horror to those round about him.”
40 For thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, one will fly as an eagle, and will spread its wings over Moab.
41 Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are seized, and the hearts of the mighty in Moab at that time will be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
42 And Moab will be destroyed from being a people, because they have magnified themselves against YEHOWAH.
43 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, will be upon you, O inhabitant of Moab,” says YEHOWAH.
44 “Those that flee in fear will fall into the pit, and those that get up out of the pit will be taken in the snare, for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their reckoning,” says YEHOWAH.
45 “They that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of their strength, but a fire will come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and will devour the corner of Moab, and the crowns of the heads of the tumultuous ones.
46 Woe be unto you, O Moab!  The people of Chemosh perish, for your sons and your daughters are taken captive.
47 Yet will I bring again the captivity of Moab in the latter days,” says YEHOWAH. “Thus far is the judgment of Moab.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 49

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 49

Concerning the Ammonites, thus says YEHOWAH, “Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does their king occupy Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?
2 Therefore behold, the days come,” says YEHOWAH, “that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites, and it will be a desolate heap, and her towns will be burned with fire.  Then will Israel possess that which was his possession,” says YEHOWAH.
3 “Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled; cry, you daughters of Rabbah, gird yourselves with sackcloth; lament and run to and fro by the hedges, for their king will go into captivity, and their priests and their princes together.
4 Why do you glory in the valleys; your flowing valleys, O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying, ‘Who will come against me?’
5 Behold, I will bring terror upon you,” says Adonay YEHOWAH of hosts, “from all those that are about you; and you will be driven out, each one straight ahead, and there will be none to gather those that wander about.
6 And afterward I will turn back the captivity of the children of Ammon,” says YEHOWAH.
7 Concerning Edom, thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, “Is wisdom no more in Teman? Is counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?
8 Flee you; turn back; dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan, for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him; the time that I will visit him.
9 If grape gatherers come to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, they will destroy only till they have enough.
10 But I have made Esau bare; I have uncovered his secret places, and he will not be able to hide himself.  His seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbors, and he is no more.
11 Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive, and let your widows trust in Me.”
12 For thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, those who were not judged to drink of the cup will assuredly drink; and are you the one that will altogether go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, but you will surely drink of it.
13 For I have sworn by Myself,” says YEHOWAH, “that Bozrah will become a desolation; a reproach; a waste, and a curse, and all its cities will be perpetual wastes.
14 I have heard a report from YEHOWAH, and an ambassador is sent unto the nations, saying, ‘Gather together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.’
15 For lo, I will make you small among the nations, and despised among mankind.
16 Your fearlessness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, who holds the height of the hill.  Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from thence,” says YEHOWAH.
17 “Also Edom will be a desolation!  Everyone that goes by it will be astonished, and will hiss at all its plagues.
18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities,” says YEHOWAH, “nobody will abide there; neither will a human dwell in it.
19 Behold, he will come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong, but I will suddenly make him run away from her, and whoever is chosen I will appoint over her.  For who is like Me? And who will set the time for Me? And who is that shepherd that will stand before Me?
20 Therefore hear the counsel of YEHOWAH that He has taken against Edom; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman.  Surely the least of the flock will draw them out.  Surely He will make their habitations desolate with them.
21 The earth is moved by the sound of their fall.  There is a cry, the noise of which is heard at the Red Sea.
22 Behold, he will come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah, and at that day will the heart of the mighty of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
23 Concerning Damascus; Hamath and Arpad are dismayed, for they have heard evil tidings.  They are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
24 Damascus is become feeble, and turns herself to flee, and fear has seized her; anguish and sorrow have taken her, as a woman in travail.
25 How is the city of praise not left; the city of My joy?
26 Therefore her young will fall in her streets, and all the people of war will be cut off in that day,” says YEHOWAH of hosts.
27 “And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it will consume the palaces of Ben-hadad.”
28 Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon will strike, thus says YEHOWAH, “Arise you, go up to Kedar, and destroy the people of the east.
29 Their tents and their flock’s will they take away; they will take to themselves their curtains and all their vessels, and their camels; and they will cry unto them, ‘Fear is on every side!’
30 Flee, get you far off; dwell deep, O you inhabitants of Hazor,” says YEHOWAH, “for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has devised a plan against you.
31 Arise, get up unto the wealthy nation that dwells without care,” says YEHOWAH, “which has neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
32 Their camels will be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil, and I will scatter into all winds them that are in the utmost corners, and I will bring their calamity from every side,” says YEHOWAH.
33 “And Hazor will be a dwelling for jackals, and a desolation forever; no human will abide there, nor will any son of man dwell in it.”
34 The Word of YEHOWAH that came to Yeremiyeh the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiyeh king of Yehudah, saying,
35 “Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, ‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.
36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four corners of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there will be no nation where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be terrified before their enemies and before those who seek their life, and I will bring evil upon them, even My fierce anger,’” says YEHOWAH, “and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.
38 And I will set My throne in Elam, and will destroy from there the king and the princes,” says YEHOWAH.
39 “But it will come to pass in the latter days, that I will turn back the captivity of Elam,” says YEHOWAH.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 50

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 50

The Word that YEHOWAH spoke against Babylon, and against the land of the Chaldeans, by Yeremiyeh the prophet:
2 “Declare you among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal nothing; say, ‘Babylon is taken; Bel is confounded; Merodach is crushed; her idols are confounded, her images are crushed.
3 For out of the North there comes up a nation against her, which will make her land desolate, and none will dwell in it.  They will remove; they will depart, both mankind and beast.
4 In those days, and in that time,” says YEHOWAH, “the children of Israel will come; they and the children of Yehudah together, going and weeping.  They will go, and seek YEHOWAH their Elohim.
5 They will ask the way to Zion facing toward there, saying, ‘Come, and let us join ourselves unto YEHOWAH in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.’
6 My people have been lost sheep.  Their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains; they have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
7 All who found them have devoured them, and their adversaries said, ‘We offend not, because they have sinned against YEHOWAH, the Habitation of justice; even YEHOWAH, the Hope of their fathers.’
8 Wander from the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.
9 For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the North Country, and they will set themselves in array against her, and from there she will be taken.  Their arrows will be as of an expert warrior, and none will return in vain.
10 And Chaldea will be a spoil; and all who plunder her will be satisfied,” says YEHOWAH.
11 “Because you were glad; because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage; because you have grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls,
12 your mother will be greatly ashamed; she who bore you will be ashamed; behold, the least of the nations will be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
13 Because of the wrath of YEHOWAH it will not be inhabited, but it will be wholly desolate.  Everyone who goes by Babylon will be astonished, and hiss because of all her plagues.
14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about, all you that bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against YEHOWAH.
15 Shout against her round about, for she has given her hand; her foundations are fallen; her walls are thrown down, for it is the vengeance of YEHOWAH.  Take vengeance upon her; as she has done, do unto her!
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon and those who handle the sickle in the time of harvest, for in fear of the oppressing sword they will turn each one to their people, and they will flee each one to their own land.
17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away.  First the king of Assyria devoured him, and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.
18 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, ‘Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.
19 And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he will feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul will be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.
20 In those days, and in that time,” says YEHOWAH, “search will be made for the iniquity of Israel, but none will be found; and for the sins of Yehudah, but they will not be found, for I will forgive those whom I reserve.
21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod.  Slay and utterly destroy them,” says YEHOWAH, “and do according to all that I have commanded you.
22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.
23 How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken!  How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations!
24 I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, O Babylon, and you were not aware.  You are found, and also caught, because you have contended with YEHOWAH.
25 YEHOWAH has opened His armory, and has brought forth the weapons of His indignation, for this is the work of Adonay YEHOWAH of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Come against her from the utmost borders; open her storehouses; cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left.
27 Slay all her bulls; let them go down to slaughter; woe unto them, for their day is come; the time of their reckoning.
28 The voice of those that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of YEHOWAH our Elohim; the vengeance of His temple.
29 Call together the archers against Babylon.  All you that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none of them escape.  Repay her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her, for she has been proud against YEHOWAH; against the Holy One of Israel.
30 Therefore her young will fall in the streets, and all her warriors will be cut off in that day,” says YEHOWAH.
31 “Behold, I am against you, O you most proud,” says Adonay YEHOWAH of hosts, “for your day is come; the time that I will visit you.
32 And the most proud will stumble and fall, with none to raise them up.  And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all who are round about him.”
33 Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, “The children of Israel and the children of Yehudah were oppressed together, and all who took them captive held them fast; they refused to let them go.
34 Their Redeemer is strong; YEHOWAH of hosts is His Name.  He will thoroughly plead their case, so that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.
35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans,” says YEHOWAH, “and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.
36 A sword is upon the liars and the foolish!  A sword is upon her mighty, and they will be terrified!
37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her, and they will become as women!  A sword is upon her treasures, and they will be robbed!
38 A drought is upon her waters, and they will be dried up, for it is the land of graven images, and they are boastful about their idols.
39 Therefore the desert dwelling beasts, and the island dwelling beasts, and the owls will dwell in it, and it will never again be inhabited nor dwelled in from generation to generation.
40 As Elohim overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbor cities,” says YEHOWAH, “so will no human abide there, nor will any son of man dwell there.
41 Behold, a people will come from the North; a great nation, and many kings will be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
42 They will hold the bow and the lance; they are cruel, and will show no mercy; their voice will roar like the sea, and they will ride upon horses; each one put in array like a man to the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon.
43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands hang feebly; anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.
44 Behold, he will come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong, but I will suddenly make him run away from her; and whoever is chosen, I will appoint over her.  For who is like Me? And who will set the time for Me? And who is that shepherd that will stand before Me?
45 Therefore hear the counsel of YEHOWAH that He has taken against Babylon, and His purposes, that He has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans.  Surely the least of the flock will draw them out.  Surely He will make their habitations desolate with them.
46 The earth is moved at the sound of Babylon’s fall, and their cry is heard throughout the nations.”

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 51

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 51

Thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in the midst of those who rise up against Me, a destroying Spirit,
2 and will send unto Babylon strangers who will winnow her, and will empty her land, for in the day of trouble they will be against her round about.
3 Against those who bend, let the archer bend his bow, and against those who lift themselves up in their coat of mail, who spare not her young, destroy utterly all her host.
4 Thus the slain will fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and they that are thrust through in her streets.
5 For Israel has not been forsaken, nor Yehudah, of his Elohim; of YEHOWAH of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.
6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver each one their soul.  Be not cut off in her iniquity, for this is the time of YEHOWAH’S vengeance, and He will render unto her a recompense.
7 Babylon has been a golden cup in YEHOWAH’S hand, that made all the earth drunk.  The nations have drunk of her wine, therefore the nations are mad.
8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed; howl for her; take balm for her pain, perhaps she may be healed.
9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed; forsake her, and let us go everyone to their own country, for her judgment reaches unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
10 YEHOWAH has brought forth our righteousness.  Come, and let us declare in Zion the work of YEHOWAH our Elohim.
11 Polish the arrows, gather the shields, YEHOWAH has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, for His device is against Babylon, to destroy it, because it is the vengeance of YEHOWAH; the vengeance of His temple.
12 Set up the standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong; set up the watchmen and prepare the ambushes, for YEHOWAH has both devised and done that which He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.
13 O you who dwell upon many waters, abundant in treasures, your end is come; the measure of your covetousness.
14 YEHOWAH of hosts has sworn by Himself, saying, ‘Surely I will fill you with men, as with caterpillars, and they will lift up a shout against you.’
15 He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heaven by His understanding.
16 When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth.  He makes the lightning with the rain, and brings forth the wind out of His treasuries.
17 Everyone is senseless in their knowledge; every founder is confounded by the graven image, for their molten images are falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
18 They are vanity, the work of errors, and in the time of their reckoning they will perish.
19 The portion of Jacob is not like them, for He is the Maker of all things, and Israel is the rod of His inheritance; YEHOWAH of hosts is His Name.
20 You are My battle axe and weapons of war, for with you will I break in pieces the nations, and with you will I destroy kingdoms;
21 and with you will I break in pieces the horse and their rider; and with you will I break in pieces the chariot and their rider;
22 with you also will I break in pieces man and woman, and with you will I break in pieces old and young; and with you will I break in pieces the young man and the maid.
23 I will also break in pieces with you the shepherds and their flocks; and with you will I break in pieces the farmer and their yoke of oxen; and with you will I break in pieces captains and rulers.
24 And I will render unto Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea, all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight,” says YEHOWAH.
25 “Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain,” says YEHOWAH, “who destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out My hand upon you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt out mountain.
26 And they will not take from you a stone for a corner, or a stone for foundations, but you will be desolate forever,” says YEHOWAH.
27 “Set you up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her; call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillars.
28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, their captains, and all their rulers, and all the land of their dominion.
29 And the land will tremble and writhe in pain, for every purpose of YEHOWAH will be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.
30 The mighty warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting.  They remain in their strongholds.  Their might has failed; they became as women.  They have burned her dwelling places, and her bars are broken.
31 One guard will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken at one end,
32 and that the passages are seized, and the marshes have been burned with fire, and the warriors are terrified.”
33 For thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor, it is time to thresh her; yet a little while, and the time of her harvest will come.
34 ‘Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me up like a jackal; he has filled his belly with my delicacies; he has cast me out.
35 May the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon’, the inhabitant of Zion will say, ‘And my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea’, Jerusalem will say.”
36 Therefore thus says YEHOWAH, “Behold, I will plead your case, and take vengeance for you, and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.
37 And Babylon will become heaps; a dwelling place for jackals; a desolation, and a hissing without an inhabitant.
38 They will roar together like lions; they will growl as lions’ whelps.
39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake,” says YEHOWAH.
40 “I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, and like rams with male goats.
41 How is Sheshach taken?  And how is the praise of the whole earth surprised?  How has Babylon become an astonishment among the nations?
42 The sea has come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of its waves.
43 Her cities are a desolation; a dry land and a wilderness; a land in which no human dwells, nor does any son of man pass by there.
44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed; and the nations will not flow together any more unto him.  Yes, the wall of Babylon will fall.
45 Go out from her midst My people, and deliver you each one your soul from the fierce anger of YEHOWAH.
46 And lest your heart faint, and you fear for the rumor that will be heard in the land; a rumor will both come one year, and after that in another year will come a rumor, and violence in the land, with ruler against ruler.
47 Therefore behold, the days are coming, that I will execute judgment upon the graven images of Babylon, and her whole land will be ashamed, and all her slain will fall in the midst of her.
48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is in them, will sing for Babylon; for the spoilers will come unto her from the North,” says YEHOWAH.
49 “As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon will fall the slain of all the earth.
50 You who have escaped the sword, depart!  Do not remain!  Remember YEHOWAH afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.
51 We are ashamed, because we have heard rebuke.  Shame has covered our faces, for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of YEHOWAH’S house.
52 Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says YEHOWAH, “that I will execute judgment upon her graven images, and through all her land the wounded will groan.
53 Though Babylon should ascend to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from Me will spoilers come unto her,” says YEHOWAH.
54 “A sound of a cry comes from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans,
55 because YEHOWAH has spoiled Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice. When her waves do roar like many waters, a noise of their voice sounds forth,
56 because the spoiler is come upon her; upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken.  Every one of their bows is broken, for YEHOWAH is an El of recompense, and He will surely repay.
57 And I will make drunk her princes, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men, and they will sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake,” says the King, Whose Name is YEHOWAH of hosts.
58 Thus says YEHOWAH of hosts, “The broad walls of Babylon will be completely razed, and her high gates will be burned with fire; and the people will labor in vain; and the nations will be exhausted for the fire.”
59 The word which Yeremiyeh the prophet commanded Seraiyeh the son of Neriyeh, the son of Maaseiyeh, when he went with Zedekiyeh the king of Yehudah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign.  And Seraiyeh was a peaceful prince.
60 So Yeremiyeh wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon; even all these words that are written against Babylon.
61 And Yeremiyeh said to Seraiyeh, “When you come to Babylon, then see that you proclaim all these words,
62 and say, ‘O YEHOWAH, You have spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none will remain in it, neither human nor beast, but that it will be desolate forever.’
63 And it will be, when You have made an end of reading this book, that you will bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of Euphrates;
64 and you will say, ‘Thus will Babylon sink, and will not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her, and they will be weary.’” Thus far are the words of Yeremiyeh.

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 52

YEREMIYEH:  CHAPTER 52

Zedekiyeh was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.  And his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Yeremiyeh of Libnah.
2 And he did that which was evil in the eyes of YEHOWAH, according to all that Yehiakim had done.
3 For through the anger of YEHOWAH it came to pass in Jerusalem and Yehudah, until He had cast them out from His presence, that Zedekiyeh rebelled against the king of Babylon.
4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and built forts against it round about.
5 So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiyeh.
6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden.  Now the Chaldeans were by the city round about, so they went by the way of the desert.
8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiyeh in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.
10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiyeh before his eyes; he slew also all the princes of Yehudah in Riblah.
11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiyeh, and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.
12 Now in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard who served the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem,
13 and burned the house of YEHOWAH, and the king’s house.  And he burned with fire all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men.
14 And all the army of the Chaldeans that were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.
15 Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away captive certain of the poor of the people, and the rest of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.
16 But Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, left certain of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for farmers.
17 Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of YEHOWAH, and the bases, and the copper sea that was in the house of YEHOWAH, the Chaldeans broke, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.
18 The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away.
19 And the basins, and the fire pans, and the bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold, and that which was of silver, took away the captain of the guard.
20 The two pillars, one sea, and twelve copper bulls that were under the bases, which King Solomon had made in the house of YEHOWAH, and the brass of all these vessels was without weight.
21 And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness of it was four fingers, and it was hollow.
22 And a column of brass was upon it, and the height of one column was five cubits, with the network and pomegranates upon the column round about, all of brass.  The second pillar also and the pomegranates were like unto these.
23 And there were ninety six pomegranates on a side, and all the pomegranates upon the network were one hundred round about.
24 And the captain of the guard took Seraiyeh the chief priest, and Zephaniyeh the second priest, and the three keepers of the door.
25 He took also out of the city a eunuch, who had the charge of the men of war, and seven men of them that were near the king’s person, which were found in the city, and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city.
26 So Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah.
27 And the king of Babylon struck them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath.  Thus Yehudah was carried away captive out of his own land.
28 This is the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive:  In the seventh year, three thousand and twenty three Yehudi.
29 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred and thirty two persons.
30 In the twenty third year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, carried away captive of the Yehudi seven hundred forty five persons.  So all the people were four thousand six hundred.
31 And it came to pass in the thirty seventh year of the captivity of Yehiachin king of Yehudah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty fifth day of the month, that Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Yehiachin king of Yehudah, and brought him forth out of prison,
32 and spoke kindly unto him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon,
33 and changed his prison garments.  And he ate bread continually before him all the days of his life.
34 And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon; every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.”
